Summary and Responsibilities The Nurse Shift Manager (NSM) is a Registered Nurse (RN) responsible for overseeing patient care and administrative activities in their respective department(s)/unit(s).

The Nurse Shift

Manager (NSM) will continually evaluate quality and effectiveness of patient care practices and care delivery. Medical/clinical knowledge, technical skills, clinical judgment, interpersonal skills and communication skills as indicated in the current Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Hospitals (CAMH) are essential components of nursing management. Promotes staffing compliance and insures safe staffing assignments.

Monitors staffing to achieve productivity and budget standards. The NSM performs within the scope and standards of practice set for the by the American Nurses Association and any professional organizations specific to specialty to guide practice and standards within the work place. The NSM with the ability to hire, coach, counsel, evaluate, discipline and terminate others.

The NSM has the responsibility and authority to assign work, duties and responsibilities, to direct staff, and exercise independent judgment.

Job Requirements

Minimum

RN license

BLS & ACLS

National Institutes of Health Stoke Scale (NIHSS)

Three years acute hospital clinical experience as a Registered Nurse (RN)

One year or greater currrent (within 5 years) experience as charge nurse, relief charge nurse, or nursing managment is required.
