Macy's 2026 Summer Internship, Communications - Social Impact Team

The Social Impact Intern participates in Macy’s 8-week Summer Internship Program in Corporate Communications & Public Affairs, gaining experience in areas such as cause marketing, colleague giving and volunteering, corporate grants, internal communications, public relations, and brand marketing. The successful intern will gain insight into the strategies and processes involved in bringing a social commitment to life across a national fleet of stores with more than 70,000 colleagues touching millions of customers. This internship begins on June 1st with a strong preference for hybrid – in-person and remote work in New York, NY.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning cause marketing campaigns, including preparing briefs, drafting communications, and planning in-store events
  • Help plan and execute company-wide colleague giving and volunteering campaign by assisting with reporting, planning events, and coordinating volunteer opportunities
  • Opportunity to pitch a new social impact activation and partner, then bring it to life to manage end-to-end ideation, strategy, execution and track KPIs
  • Research potential nonprofit partners and ways the business can work with them
  • Gather and summarize relevant customer, colleague, and industry research related to social impact
  • Assist team members with administrative tasks such as preparing for events, running data reports, managing funding requests, and more as needed
  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance and punctuality
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities
  • In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned

Requirements

  • Understanding of How to Serve Communities – Knowledgeable and passionate about the needs of local communities and social impact sector trends
  • Problem Solving Abilities – Ability to assess challenges, build consensus, and work through others to achieve project objectives; flexible in responding to change.
  • Collaboration & Relationship Building – Strong interpersonal and team collaboration skills to effectively manage projects from initiation through delivery; ability to work with internal teams, executives, and external production partners.
  • Organizational & Project Management – Capacity to manage multiple tasks, support key HR initiatives, and contribute to organizational strategies with minimal supervision.
  • Adaptability & Learning Agility – Willingness to learn, adapt quickly to new challenges, and apply knowledge in a fast paced corporate environment.
  • Rising Seniors pursuing a bachelor’s degree with strong academic performance are encouraged to apply. Study in Marketing, Communications, or Public Relations preferred but all majors are welcome. Minimum 3.0 GPA required.
  • Demonstrated passion and experience for giving back/volunteering on campus or in the community.
  • Interest in understanding how businesses can support communities
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
