Earn And Learn Teaching Fellowship

Become a full-time lead teacher in less than one year, with full compensation and benefits during your training.

Great teachers create meaningful impact and enjoy rewarding careers. But getting started as a teacher can be confusing and expensive. There are permits to pay for, paperwork to fill out, credentials to acquire and a complex hiring landscape to navigate. Often, you have to stop working while you train or get another degree. It can be a difficult choice between making a living and making a difference.

TeachStart offers a simple solution: a guided pathway to the classroom through our earn-and-learn Fellowship, allowing you to take your first steps toward teaching with confidence.

Our Organization: TeachStart provides an Earn-and-Learn pathway, helping people accelerate their careers by supporting them to become teachers, while offering a full-time wage, benefits and high-quality training. Our goal is to create economic opportunity for fellows while helping schools address the ongoing teacher shortage.

The Role: The TeachStart Fellowship is a career accelerator in which Fellows receive foundational training, and then work as substitute teachers while completing their credentialing requirements. They receive coaching and support throughout their time in the program.

TeachStart helps to cover the upfront costs for becoming a substitute and offers a reduced fee for coursework with our credentialing partner. Our aim is to provide a sustainable wage, and a supportive pathway into the classroom.

At the end of the Fellowship, we support Fellows to attain full-time employment as a Lead Teacher.
